Two worlds overlap when Henry Atherton finds Prince Pyrgus, of the Faerie Realm, in old Mr. Fogarty's shed. Pyrgus, a youth with a penchant for rescuing animals, was sent via portal to another world to flee an assorted bunch of evildoers and malcontents, including Lord Hairstreak, dastardly ruler of the Faeries of the Night. Unfortunately, he lands in the wrong world, present-day Britain. His arrival is a welcome distraction for Henry, who is distressed by his parents' separation. Along with Mr. Fogarty, an eccentric with vast scientific knowledge, and Pyrgus's staunchly faithful sister, Princess Holly Blue, Henry must help Pyrgus get home to stop the impending war that threatens to destroy the Faerie Realm.
